Like gems glittering overhead, pendant lighting shines with a statement. They do more than just illuminate a bland corner. By selecting your pendant lighting wisely, you can add more character into the space and instantly uplift your interiors. But before jumping into a shopping spree, take these tips along with you. The following notes will guide you on finding the right pendant lighting for every area of your home.

Home Entrances: 

A solitary pendant light immediately greets you with a proper, warm welcome. You’ll feel it: the ambient glow sends a signal that you’re finally home, while guests will similarly feel the subtle greeting as they walk into the hallway. For longer corridors, you may want to install a row of similarly designed pendant lights for a uniform statement. Alternatively, a feature pendant coupled with a linear lighting will also produce a beautiful effect in lighting the area. 

Living Room:

Light up your lounge room or TV room with a charming pendant lighting. To pick up the right design, make that your chosen lighting has the same shade as the interior’s theme and shape. It is important that your pendant light binds all visual links together, and not distract it. Choose ones of the simpler shape; industrial lighting takes a step back from the glamorous chandeliers, but these work best with modern day interiors.

Dining Rooms:

Amp up an atmosphere of cosy by installing a pendant lighting directly above the table. Other than it makes food placement (and pickings) easier, the ambient glow warms the atmosphere and stimulates the appetite for bonding and eating. The height is one of the factors you must consider. You want your pendant lighting high enough to see beneath it, but low enough to provide the right statement for your interiors.

Bathroom: 

Pendant lighting in the bathroom? Why not? Instead of installing the usual linear lights in your baths, pick a beautiful, rustic pendant lighting to match your interiors. A crisp, solid-coloured lighting for chic bathrooms, or a vintage-inspired shade pendant lamp for industrial and farmhouse baths.

Bedroom:

Say goodbye to your bedside lamps; pendant lights are taking over bedrooms, and it’s aesthetically wonderful. Settle your pendant light at your favourite side of the bed, and read your night-time books with ambient lighting before you sleep. This gives you the freedom of space: no more side tables or floor lamps that will eat up corners of your room. Install dimmers in your lighting, as well as an automatic switch, so you don’t have to get out of the bed to turn it off!

A few more things to keep in mind:

The higher the ceiling, the longer the pendant light should be. You want to showcase the start of the room, but in the right amount of height. Be careful not to place the pendant lighting too low, or else you will risk unnecessary bumps in the head.

Your pendant should seamlessly merge with your interior’s aesthetic, and not overpower it. Take note of the room’s colours, furniture, prints and shapes.

Smaller spaces require a single pendant light, while bigger ones may need a row of two or more. When setting it up above a table, make sure that the lighting is 30cm shorter against the diameter of your table.

Don’t be afraid to mix and match. Just as you get playful in wearing your jewellery, you can also combine several pendant lighting designs in one area and get away with it.
